- confirmed would not crank and hot smell. lifted vehicle found starter gear extended against ring gear. loosened starter and gear retracted. found engine will not turn over with bar. turns 3/4 of the way and stops hard in both directions. no damage or debris visible through converter/flexplate access cover. most likely internal engine failure
